Knowing the Character

This fanclub is for everyone who likes/loves the genius inventor of Duckburg! Join us today!

But who is Gyro Gearloose? What is he like? Well, many of you probably know him from the "Ducktales" TV-show where he has built wacky (but useful) inventions and robots. But did you know that he makes many appearances in the comics almost all over the world as well? There you can get a good view of how reliable and friendly he is. He is well-known in Italy, where his name is Archimede Pitagorico, and also the comics by Carl Barks. The appreciated comic artist Don Rosa has included Gyro in his comics too. One of them is "Gyro's First Invention", which tells the story of how Gyro created Little Helper: [link]

Here you can read Carl Barks' stories about Gyro Gearloose and his friends in Duckburg: [link]

Gyro Gearloose is created by Carl Barks (1901-2000). Rest in peace, Mr. Barks. :blackrose:

Co-Founders

:iconmouselady:

First of all, I'm terribly sorry about the idling activity here! Shamefully, I haven't been much around to write any Journal about Gyro's 59th Birthday this year. But luckily, I saved his day by drawing the traditional Birthday fanart in time. :phew: Meanwhile, our dear Co-Founder :iconmouselady: is struggling with her own life and working for her living, which means she has limited access to the Internet. But she's still alive, I assure you. Thank god for that. ^^
Still we both have so much time, so little to do... no wait... strike that, reverse it. Thank you.

It's not easy running a Group alone, so I would appreciate if any of you Members would like to become Group's Contributor. One or two would be fine. You can go request by sending a Note either to the Group or to me :iconghostbusterlover: saying you'd like to become a Contributor. Please tell me also why you'd like to become a Contributor, what and how you can help the Group and a little of your activity on DeviantART (i.e. how much you log in per week). Just so I know how the Group will be running.

Another thing worth mentioning is the Gallery submission: it took me THAT long to actually see the "wrong" part of it. :O_o: The Members' artworks are sadly in the Favorites folder instead of being featured in the main Gallery as a proper Group should be - and worst of all, Members are not even allowed to add their works in the Gallery. My apologies, I should pay more attention to that. I guess I was such a rookie when individual Club accounts converted into Groups. ^^; But there WILL be a change of that! I have now enabled the feature where Members may add their artworks to the Group's Featured Gallery. Shortly I'll be changing the Gallery Folders and moving the Members' artworks from the Favorites Folder to Featured Gallery. When I do so, I hope you will approve it. :) If you happen to decline but change your mind, you'll need to add it to the Featured Gallery yourself. If you have an artwork you'd like to submit to the Featured Gallery or if I forgot to move it there, you may submit it there. However, you might need to wait until I to approved it before it shows up there.
I may also need to delete some of my own artworks and writing from the Gallery; don't worry, it's only temporary. I'll submit them to my own account Gallery and then feature it over here in the Group Gallery. I just noticed that I can't edit or change anything, neither the picture/story writing itself nor the description, that has been uploaded here in the beginning, which is odd. I'll see if I can do something about this. Not sure if I can do anything about *mouselady's stuff too until she lends a hand. Time will know.

Furthermore, I noticed that not only the Group staff (the two of us in other words) are idling here. You Members should also show some sign of life here, or what do you think? Is there anything you're wondering about? If you have any questions about the character, how to make this a better community in the Group or if you have any ideas for a contest you may comment and give your opinion.

Speaking of contests, I'd like to know if any of you are interested in participating a contest here. Themes, rules and prices can be discussed, that means I need you ALL Members to discuss about it here! Just feel free to give any ideas! Don't be shy! :) Gyro and Helper would love to hear it too!

Another thing is that we really need to think how to get an upgrade for a Super Group. It costs quite a lot for 12-month Subscription, and I know many of us (if not all) either can't afford it or aren't so eager to spend that much for it... but I tell you, it should be worth it. Then I'd do my best to make it eye-appealing in any way. If money donations won't do, then there just may be a little chance with a Donation Pool where we aim for 4,796 devPoints. :points: But I'm afraid that it wouldn't be so effective. :hmm: Any ideas?

And finally: If you have any friend or sibling who likes/loves Gyro Gearloose and/or Little Helper, please invite him/her to this Group! The more the merrier! ;)

I think that's all in this update for now. Take care, all of you!

Yours sincerely,
*Ghostbusterlover, Club Founder

Hey, I was wondering... I'm lately interested in Gyro's family mambers. Just a random reflection, but I'm kinda sad that there is not much fanarts and fanfics with Ratchet, Newton or Fulton.

I noticed that too. :hmm: There are more relatives and ancestors of Gyro, too, who have appeared in various comics. Maybe I should try draw them or write a fanfic about the whole family.

Really? I've only spotted his father, nephew and grandfather. I have few ideas for fanfics with them (not to mention that my epic spy fic in Polish has Newton and Fulton in it, and Scrooge mentions Ratchet there). One of these stories is about Gyro travels to "Maser of Missisipi" times and finds his grandfather, while Emil tries to kill Ratchet.

I think the others only showed up in Italian comics that has been translated into many languages (Swedish for one, that's how I get to read about it in the comics I'm buying/borrowing). Same about Gyro's various girlfriends, I think he had at least three during different stories that seem to be coming and going. Sad none of them stayed for any longer time than just one or a couple of stories. :hmm:
Anyway, your story sounds interesting! :) But I'm anxious about Ratchet. <<
